這首馬文作曲，艾倫柏格曼夫婦填詞的同名主題歌曲「The Way We Were」，既傷感又纏綿，在電影中特別採用了各式不同的樂器，設計出芭芭拉史翠珊時而輕聲吟唱，時而木琴低迴，時而鋼琴獨奏，時而還有華麗的管弦樂伴奏的各式版本，伺機在劇情轉折的情緒空檔時出現，撩動觀眾的觀影情緒。
